Editorial : Erykah Badu (My 2Cents)

The news broke out not long ago that Erykah Badu's concert tonight is officially cancelled. Many fans are disappointed, some people are happy, but regardless what is it, I'm writing a post today to say how disappointed I am as a fan of music, particularly hip-hop for this to happen.

Many will see this as a religious issue. True. No one can deny those body art (let me correct you, it's NOT tattoo) can be offensive. However what Erykah Badu did her fair bid of explanation on her twitter.

So who's fault?

Before this picture was released (with the word of Allah in Arabic), Pineapple Concerts release photos of this without the word "Allah" in Arabic because of the sensitivity towards the Muslim society in Malaysia. They acted very responsible to ensure that no one will be offended. Everything went smooth, after even a postponement of the concert, the show was suppose to start tonight. Everything was fine, half of the Planetary was sold, and we're about to start a show.

Then The Star, of all newspapers, decides to think NOT think of the sensitivity of the people, and post the picture above (least I pixelate it) to blow everything up.
Do you know how long did the fans wait to see Erykah? Since 2009 Sunburst? Since a super long time. And now when the opportunity came, this publication decides to do something so they could sell more papers and caused controversy. Given all that, all they do is say they're SORRY. What about Pineapple Concert who worked so hard to bring her here? The cost of preparation, in engaging her, and most importantly accommodating her here in Malaysia before the show begins.

If this picture didn't make the paper, none of these fiasco can happen. I won't waste time to post this post, we all go watch Erykah Badu tonight and end of story. But you (The Star) didn't think much did you? I think actions should be taken towards them by the government, but we all know why, and who is funding them. Hence they can say SORRY and go.

Don't just not know the truth. Seek the truth. And stop hating, the shame some of you actually spam her Facebook to prove a point, shame.

And I can put one song out here, you all heard the Malay version of it, and I don't even have to say what song is it, go figure. She has inspired so many people. And it's all love, since when it's the hate?

I don't blame anyone else, I don't blame no religion, but I blame an irresponsible publication who is so insensitive. P.S. Given that Indonesian are aware about this, their date of her show is continuing as usual. So is it politicise too much? You decide.

Peace.
