Editorial : Malaysian Boy(s) Getting Sued?

And so the sudden hurrah about Malaysian Boy.

I mean seriously, I don't mind about Farouk Malaysia's opinion, he can say what he wants, it's his right.

Talk on twitter started when someone said Malaysian Boy is going to be sued for copying American Boy. And it gotta start with a schoolboy out of no where who just tweet and got a retweet (yes, a legitimate word now since it has been added to the Oxford dictionary) become a sudden sweep on the internet.

But really, what do you know about suing?
Malaysian Hip-Hop is informed that all the artistes nor labels (vocally) do not own the sound recording. Then using the song commercially should have brought some consequences?

It should be clear that if it's illegal, I wouldn't think Suara Kami 2011 will commercially use the music without publishing rights clearance and be stupid enough to wait for someone (from school) to tell us the news that they (song performers and recording holders) are going to be sued.

Do you think Kanye West (living his luxury rap life like he raps on Watch The Throne) gives a nut? Or maybe two?
There has been so many 'copy of songs' (Black and Yellow, and any of your favourite radio stations recording over songs of parody, etc) and now Malaysian Boy becomes the victim?
I'm not into the bullshit thing, and if lawsuits are gonna fly, they fly cause someone is stealing someone's art without permission and claim is theirs. I don't think they didn't say Malaysian Boy is not a copy of American Boy.

Think about it.
Cause if the lawsuits are going to fly, let it fly fairly.

  1. it's not about claiming it's theirs vic. it's about treating it LIKE it's theirs. theirs being astro.

it's considered a violation only if astro makes money out of it. INCLUDING using it in commercials that LEAD to profit. which incidentally is the case. parodies and covers are therefore/usually safe, not this. Suing the artists wont profit Kanye/his label/distribution channels much. but suing astro...that's big money.

  2. it's estelle's song, first of all, it only features kanye on one verse... and second I listened to the song, it is EXACTLY THE SAME like if they had sampled it it would probably not be as severe, but they used the song structure and everything. I think it would be right for them to sue the makers of this song. :P
