What’s good, peoples?!
We are officially 6 months old come July 8, and to commemorate this we promise you The Bomb Shelter will be bigger and better this time around.
For the past six months you done seen some dope MCing courtesy of TBS, but hip hop is much more than just the rappers. As the sole avenue for local hip hop heads to represent themselves, we’re expanding to other aspects of the culture.
This month Rogue Squadron’s resident DJs Headshell Heroes will show hip hop heads what’s up on the 1s and 2s. These maestros on the wheelz of steelz with multiple awards to their names finally get to spin their own well-deserved set after months of scratching for TBS.
What about the MCs you say? We haven’t forgotten about them one bit.
Rogue Squadron’s Schizzow headlines the show with songs off his upcoming release The Schizzowphrenic. Promising a medley of everyman rap without any pretensions of bling, thuggery and ho’s, Schizzow is relatable while still staying true to hip hop aesthetics. Expect the album to be available at the show, so bring some extra dough!
Hailing all the way from Sabah, one of the pioneers of the hip hop scene there will be gracing us with a visit. Decipher, who also produced for Jin Hackman, is set to school us on what the scene on the other side of Malaysia is like.
Despite his newbie status, Saphuan is effortlessly cool with a cadence and beat choice reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco.
Similarly homie Dafrosty is no slouch either, having performed multiple times in Singapore he is at last making a homecoming debut at TBS.
Rogue Squadron’s beatmakers Skware-1 and Mushroom Buttons is in charge of this month’s playlist. Expect a dope mix of local classics and the truest of hip hop.
EGO TV will be recording the whole event for their next webisode the following month. So MCs pay attention, there will be a cipher session!
Also new to TBS is the Apa Cer Section, basically if you’re part of the scene and you have something up, you are free to come up on the stage and promote your shit.
In case you still haven’t heard, there is no entrance fee. The Bomb Shelter is totally free.
The Bomb Shelter is brought to you by Malaysia's largest independent hip hop collective, the Rogue Squadron; KL's go-to live music spot Cloth & Clef (grab a drink by the bar and check out the boutique upstairs!) and JUICE Magazine.
